NEET PG 2025 Postponed: Reason for Exam Delay & New Date Announcement

By Dr.Nithin Sebastian

Shocking news was released to the NEET PG aspirants by the NBEMS on May 30. The NEET PG 2025 exam has been postponed to a tentative date of August 3rd. The reasons provided include the arrangement of additional test centres and improved infrastructure. These improvisations will be done by the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) by establishing more test centres and the necessary infrastructure to conduct the exam in one session. Officials have decided to hold a single-shift exam to address the delay and ensure fairness in conducting the exam and scoring.

This exam postponing, rescheduling, and new date announced by the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India has caused uncertainty, frustration and anxiety for over 200,000 medical graduates. Candidates should face this disappointing issue with resilience and not let it interfere with the preparations. Keep checking the NBEMS and NMC websites for updates.

Why was NEET PG 2025 Postponed?

This postponement has thrown students into a state of uneasiness, frustration and anxiety. It has plagued the candidate’s dedicated efforts to ace this competitive exam. Also, candidates who have followed a proper study timetable might be in a stage where they don’t know what to study next as they have planned to complete the syllabus on time

The three NEET PG delay reasons are listed below:

  1. Multiple Shift Concerns – The exam was held in two shifts to accommodate the large number of students, hassle-free. This system created changes in difficulty levels and fairness in scoring.
  2. Legal Intervention—This delay was caused by a set of doctors highlighting the inconsistencies in candidates’ scores, caused by the multiple shifts. The court ruled to conduct the exam in a single shift.
  3. Technical Adjustment – The Technology Services Corporation (TSC), the technological partner of the NEET PG exam, requested extra time to set up the infrastructure needed to manage the logistics and to conduct a single shift exam smoothly.

These exam delays are not the first time. Two instances took place in the years 2021 and 2023. In 2021, it was postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic and in 2023, it was delayed due to internship completion deadlines; the students needed more time to meet the eligibility criteria. This depressing delay demands your extra dedication and hard work to ace the exam. It might delay your plans but use this time to refine your preparations.

Expected New date for NEET PG

According to sources, the NEET PG 2025 exam is most likely scheduled for August 3rd, 2025. Due to the change, it affected the overall workflow of the entire examination process itself. Usually, the application window opens 2-3 months before the schedule. Then the admit cards that are released are issued 1-2 weeks before. Now that the exam is changing to a single shift, applicants will be issued new admit cards with updated schedules and logistical details. The candidates should be alert to any new updates on schedules and any official changes of the newly confirmed exam date. Candidates are advised to frequently check the official websites of NBE and NMC for verified updates.

What should NEET PG Aspirants do next?

The setback in the NEET PG 2025 exam is an opportunity. It provides an extended opportunity to polish your knowledge and gain more confidence. This is the time to focus on your study techniques. Some techniques are given below:

  1. Focus on High-Yield Topics – Prioritise topics such as Medicine, Surgery, Pharmacology, and Pathology, which carry high weight. Concentrate on these subjects while practising previous years’ question papers or mock tests.
  2. Strengthen Your Revision – Divide the subjects with appropriate revision periods. Review the notes, key points, and memory techniques regularly.
  3. Practice Mock Tests – Attempt mock tests with the thought of attending an actual exam, and based on your performance, identify your weak areas and strengthen them.
  4. Use Flashcards and Visual Aids – Remember the important concepts and formulas by making flashcards and visual aids and reviewing them. To learn complicated concepts easily, use charts, flow diagrams, and tables.
  5. Stick to a Timetable – Prepare an improved timetable where each subject has appropriate learning hours. Include sufficient breaks.

Stay calm and focused during this time. This is the time to put in your extra effort, deepen your knowledge, revise, and be confident.
