Steps to Take After NEET PG Results

This is another confusing issue every student faces post-examinations. To solve it out, eight steps are explained below that will help you to leverage your NEET PG results.

    1. Download and Verify Scorecard
Right after the results are published, log in to the official NBE portal and download your NEET PG scorecard. Ensure that all personal details, registration number, and category are correctly mentioned. Make a note of your total score, percentile, All India Rank (AIR), and category rank. Compare your score with the cut-off marks published by NBE for your category. If there are any errors, contact NBE support promptly to rectify them. Print multiple copies of the scorecard as required during counseling and admissions.
    2. Understand Your Position
Each seat and specialty have a specified cut-off rank. Analyse your rank relative to past years’ cut-offs for your category and desired speciality. Based on your rank and the cut-off, choose your college and speciality. Look at last year’s opening and closing ranks for colleges/specialities you are interested in.
    3. Register for NEET PG Counselling
Post examination results, official education committees such Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the state counselling authority will announce certain announcements regarding the admissions and allotments. They will be related to the availability of seats in All India Quota, state quota, private colleges, central universities and other institutions. Create an account on the respective portal(s) within the given deadlines. Pay the registration fee and submit your preferences for colleges and specialities. You can register for both All India Quota and your state quota if eligible; these can increase your chances.
    4. Prepare Your Documents
Gather all necessary documents and keep them ready in the original and a photocopy:

      • NEET PG admit card and scorecard
      • MBBS degree/provisional certificate
      • Internship completion certificate
      • Permanent/provisional medical registration certificate
      • Valid government-issued photo ID
      • Caste/Category/PwD certificate (if applicable)
      • Passport-size photos
      •
    5. Fill and Lock Your Choices
At this point, you have to find your choices and, based on that, research about colleges and specialities. Categorise your options into three: the colleges you dream of, the colleges kept as a second option, and some colleges you consider as a backup option. Do your research, finalise them, and fill them out before the deadline. Doing them on time will help you in locking your preferred choices rather than locking some random colleges.
    6. Attend Counselling and Document Verification
The official allocations of seats in the medical college to the qualified NEET PG candidates are the counselling session. The allocations will be done according to the candidate’s rank, preferences, and category. The next procedure in this stage is the document verification. All the important documents, such as the NEET PG admit card, MBBS degree/provisional certificates and other documents, should be verified. After the verification, confirm your seat allocation. There are chances where you might not get your preferred seat in the first round itself. In those instances, you can participate in the next rounds, such as round 2 and the mop-up round.
    7. Stay Informed and Flexible
Ensure that you are in the loop about the announcements or notifications made by the authorities. They can release any kind of information related to your allocations and other details anytime. Therefore, it is important to stay updated. When the allocations are announced, decide quickly whether you want to accept it or do you want to make any changes. In this stage, you have to be flexible for any kind of change in reshuffling in the further rounds.
    8. Plan for the Transition
This is the final stage includes your preparation for shifting to your allocated medical college. Here, your new journey in your medical career begins!

Check and Understand Your Scorecard

It is important to go through the scorecard thoroughly. Your NEET PG scorecard contains the total marks, All India Rank (AIR), and category rank, which help you understand whether you have met the standards set for the college seat and the speciality of your choice. Verify the personal and academic information on the card for any mistakes; if found, report it to the NBE without any delay.

Participate in NEET PG Counselling Process

There are certain procedures for completing the counselling procedure. Begin by registering for the MCC All India Quota Counselling or your respective state counselling authority. Based on your preferences and choose your colleges and specialities. After the results are announced along with the scorecard, prepare other documents such as the NEET PG admit card & scorecard and the MBBS degree & internship certificate and keep yourself updated about the counselling schedule to avoid missing any rounds or reporting dates.

Explore Options Based on Your Rank

You might have certain preferences about the college for postgraduation, but a seat will be allocated only based on the rank you score. Ensure that you keep a second choice in case you do not get into the college of your choice.  Compare your score with the cut-off mark set for the college and speciality of your choice.

Clearing NEET PG and navigating the whole admission process have the same level of importance. Using your marks wisely to get into the college and program of your choice. Complete all the procedures and make necessary decisions on time. If you do not get the college and seat of your choice in the first go, do not worry! Stay calm and focused to make your next plan.
